When Rosa Parks was arrested for refusing to give up her seat to a white man on a bus in 1955, Martin Luther King Jr., became actively involved in the fight against segregated busing and played a leading role in the Civil Rights movement.In 1963, King helped organize The March on Washington where he delivered one of his most famous speeches, “I Have a Dream.”

In 1963 he was honored as Time magazine’s Man of the Year, and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964 for his outstanding desegregation efforts.

Even though King was stoned, beaten, and arrested for his stand on Equal Rights, he remained peaceful, encouraging others to do the same.
